Non-material losses of Ukraine as a result of the war exceed 2.2 billion US dollars

As a result of the ongoing hostilities on the territory of Ukraine, the country has already suffered significant economic damage. According to the government of Ukraine, the total amount of material losses, confirmed by the World Bank, is more than 340 billion dollars. The amount of funds that has been verified and is needed for recovery is about $105 billion.

(NOT) Security Guarantees?

The Office of the President of Ukraine proposed the concept of a system of international security guarantees for Ukraine. Recommendations on security guarantees for Ukraine were developed on behalf of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and were presented by Head of the Office of the President Andriy Yermak and 12th NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen.

SITUATION IN UKRAINE: 17–24 August 2022

During the week, the situation at the front did not change significantly. In the Donbas, after minor offensives since the beginning of August, the Russian troops reached the outskirts of the city of Bakhmut. From the side of the captured town of Izyum, attempts were observed to advance in the direction of the cities of Sloviansk and the town of Barvinkove. In the southern direction, the advance of the RF Armed Forces in the direction of the town of Mykolaiv intensified.

SITUATION IN UKRAINE: 4 – 10 August 2022

US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's visit to Taiwan leads to a deterioration in US-China relations. But any direct military clash between China and the United States is unlikely due to the parties' deep financial and economic interdependence. But China may increase its involvement in hybrid forms of confrontation with the US. In particular, an escalation of Russian-Western relations and, accordingly, a war in Ukraine is likely to have more active informal participation of China in these events.
