Valentin M. Yakushik

Professor Valentin M. Yakushik is a political scientist and specialist in the theory of state and law with many years of experience in academic, public and international spheres. He holds doctoral degrees in political science and law, obtained in Kyiv during the late Soviet and early post-Soviet periods.

Professor V. M. Yakushik’s professional career includes teaching and research positions at universities in Ukraine, the United Kingdom, Japan, China and Serbia. From 1993 to 2020, he taught political science at the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy. He also served as Professor at the Faculty of Law of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv (until 1996) and as Professor at the Faculty of International Relations and Social Sciences of the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine (2020–2022).

Currently, Professor V. M. Yakushik serves as Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Ukrainian Institute of Politics (a think-tank, NGO) in Kyiv, Ukraine. He is also an Executive-in-Residence Fellow at the Geneva Centre for Security Policy (GCSP), Switzerland, and Professor at the European Centre for Peace and Development (ECPD), University for Peace established by the United Nations, Belgrade, Serbia.

His research interests cover issues of transitional states, comparative law, peacekeeping, and public administration reform. Between 2013 and 2023, he regularly appeared in international media (on Al Jazeera, Alghad TV, Sky News Arabia, Alhurra, Al Qahera News Channel, as well as television channels in India, China and Vietnam), providing commentary on political transformations, national reconciliation, conflict resolution, war and peace.

Professor V. M. Yakushik has served on advisory bodies to the President of Ukraine, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine. He also serves on the editorial boards of academic journals in Ukraine, Thailand and Armenia. His individually authored and co-authored publications include studies on strategies of political reform, the theory of state and law, and comparative political analysis.
