Analytical Research “What to do with the Autonomous Republic of Crimea: 7 models for the future of Ukraine and the world”

In the attachment you will find our study on the topic “What to do with the Autonomous Republic of Crimea: 7 models for the future of Ukraine and the world (legal decisions, international arbitration, separation of powers, socio-economic restoration, human rights)”, which, Ukrainian Institute of Politics, intermittently, led for more than 6 years.

As part of this study, we analyzed more than 100 successful and unsuccessful experiences in resolving territorial disputes between states and identified 7 possible models for Crimea. Each of the models is accompanied by historical examples and an analysis of advantages and weaknesses in the context of Crimea and the Russian-Ukrainian war.

And in order to search for mechanisms and models of diplomatic settlement, rapprochement of the de jure and de facto statuses of the region, we tried to look at historical and international examples of political resolution of territorial disputes, which, we hope, can contribute to the establishment of a stable peace for Ukraine and for the world.

Also in this study, we proceed from the principle that any model for the return of Crimea to the international and Ukrainian legal field is better than the current illegal and illegal status of Crimea within the Russian Federation in terms of ensuring human rights and freedoms on the peninsula and geopolitical stability in the region.

Enjoy reading and we look forward to discussing with you!
