The Ukrainian Institute of Politics, together with the Artificial Intelligence Laboratory and other partners, held a conference on September 14, 2023, titled "Artificial Intelligence: Challenges and Opportunities for Ukraine."
This conference was an important event that brought together participants and experts from various fields to discuss the changes, challenges, and opportunities that artificial intelligence offers for Ukraine and the world as a whole in the areas of public administration, economy, employment, and the place of humans in society.
The moderator of the conference, Oleksandr Teplyk, welcomed the participants and explained the purpose of the event. He noted that the main reason for holding the conference was the need to raise awareness among Ukrainians about the existence and possibilities of application and development of artificial intelligence. Oleksandr Teplyk noted that very few citizens in Ukraine use artificial intelligence-based tools, and this needs to change.
The first speaker at the conference was Oksana Krasovska, an analyst at the Ukrainian Institute of Politics. She made a brief analysis based on sociological and other studies of the attitude of both Ukrainians and people around the world to artificial intelligence and its tools, citing relevant data. Interestingly, optimism about AI is significantly higher in the Global South than in Europe and North America. Thus, according to an IPSOS survey, the most positive attitude towards AI is in China (78% of Chinese respondents agreed with the statement that AI products and services have more advantages than disadvantages), Saudi Arabia (76%) and India (71%). And AI is more likely to be negatively viewed in France, Canada, the Netherlands, the United States, Germany, Australia, the United Kingdom, and Belgium (on average from 70% to 60%).
Maksym Levitsky, CEO of SymbiotAI, shared his thoughts on the impact of AI on the labor market. He argues that AI will not take away jobs, but will change the nature of work, and the person who knows how to use these technologies will be important. That is, a new management hierarchy will be created: people who have mastered artificial intelligence will manage it, and AI, in turn, the lives of other people. The issues of which professions AI will have the greatest impact on, where it will become an integral part, and where it will not be needed at all were also discussed.
Valeriy Yakovenko, a Ukrainian entrepreneur and co-founder and managing partner of the DronUA group of companies, presented a unique report on the use of artificial intelligence for drones in agriculture and other important areas. The current role of drones and artificial intelligence in predicting future yields, controlling agricultural crop diseases was discussed. Based on the data collected, we can already talk about the potential income of farmers, the optimal equipment for use in agriculture, and many other important aspects. The possible use of drones in forestry to combat illegal logging and their role in situations of armed conflict was also discussed.
Natalia Stelmakh, a successful entrepreneur of Ukrainian origin from the United States, shared her experience of using artificial intelligence in e-commerce. She emphasized that AI allows you to quickly and easily analyze markets, create content, and reduce advertising costs. Examples were shown of how quickly you can analyze customer reviews, markets, and other important business data. The tools for generating product images, which are an important component for successful sales, were also discussed.
Timur Shemshedinov, architect of the Metarkhi technology stack and lecturer at the National Technical University of Ukraine "Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute" and the Kyiv School of Economics, considered the use of large language models in software development and showed how they simplify and accelerate the work of programmers, allowing them to focus more on developing applications and other software products. The prospects for young specialists in development, so-called Junior, Middle programmers, and the impact of artificial intelligence on the software development market were also discussed.
Eva Antonenko, an analyst at the Ukrainian Institute of Politics, focused on the philosophical and ethical aspects of artificial intelligence and the importance of creating rules to control its use. She also told how artificial intelligence has begun to radically change the lives of most people, becoming an integral part of it.
Andriy Ozarchuk, a teacher of geography and computer science, a research associate at the Institute of Pedagogy of the National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine, discussed the possibilities of generative artificial intelligence in education and the importance of adapting educational programs to modern challenges. The impact of artificial intelligence on the activities of teachers and changes in their approach to teaching information were also discussed. In general, the main conclusion is that education must be innovative in order to remain competitive.
Artem Gaybovich, a Huawei expert, concluded the conference by showing how positively artificial intelligence affects the optimization of radio networks and can help save up to 20%
In total, the conference was attended by over 30 participants, and the audience consisted of over 500 listeners and viewers. The event was an important event for Ukraine and contributed to the dissemination of knowledge and innovation in the field of artificial intelligence. Participants had the opportunity to gain valuable insights and perspectives on the development of this important field.
